bio About Photographer John K. Appel

John K Appel fell in love with travel at the early age of 12, when he accompanied his grandparents to France. Since then, John has traveled through twenty-six countries on four continents. Originally, John’s photography was a byproduct of travel, taking snapshots of locations to use later when painting, however, soon it was clear that photography was the reason to travel.

Cambodia and India are among John’s favorite landscapes and culture to capture on film. He also has also traveled through and shot in Nepal, Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Turkey, Greece, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, England, Holland, France, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Jamaica and Costa Rica.

The colorful tapestry of life and the beauty and grit that often accompanies it, inspires John to tell the story of the land and people he encounters on his travels. John aspires to follow in the footsteps of influential photojournalists like Steve McCurry and strives to have his work published in National Geographic.

When John is not on the back of a motorcycle in a southeast Asian country or trekking through the desert in the Middle East, he can be found working with influential photographers and companies in New York City including Darryl Patterson Photography, SandBox Studio, Macys.com, Jeff Harris Studio, Glamour Magazine and more. But, as always, the people, culture, sights and sounds of the world draw him out of the country onto another photographic expedition.
